The CRC for Low Carbon Living (CRCLCL) is a finalist in the 2019 Banksia Sustainability Awards the longest-running sustainability awards in the world.
A celebration of sustainability and ingenuity, the awards are regarded as the most prestigious in Australia and the world. They recognise Australian individuals, communities, businesses and government for their innovation and excellence in environmental and social stewardship.
The Banksia Foundation recently restructured the awards to align with the United Nation’s global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) putting a spotlight on Australia’s contribution to the global push for peaceful, healthier and more prosperous communities and the end to environmental degradation.
The CRCLCL’s forward-thinking research has successfully contributed to numerous global SDG’s by finding innovative alternatives to managing energy consumption, buildings and precincts to ensure healthier and more liveable cities in the future.
“Over the past seven the Centre’s 150 projects have contributed to 10 of the UN’s 17 sustainability goals which is an incredible achievement,” said CRCLCL CEO Professor Deo Prasad.
“We also invested $8M in over 100 HDR scholarships delivering once in a generation capacity building for the built environment sector – this is a direct contribution to SDG 4 which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Being announced as a Banksia finalist is a timely recognition of the CRCLCL’s contributions to ensuring a healthier built environment.”
