The CRC for Low Carbon Living welcomes the appointment of the Honorable Jamie Briggs MP as Federal Minister for Cities and the Built Environment, a new position which recognises the importance of the built environment and cities to Australia’s overall progress and prosperity.

“I congratulate the Prime Minister on the creation of this new portfolio to oversee cities and the built environment, which embrace Australia’s economy, industry and communities and are imperative to ensuring our nation’s ongoing productivity and prosperity,” said CRC for Low Carbon Living CEO, Scientia Professor Deo Prasad AO.

“The built environment is a major contributor to Australians’ quality of life, health and wellbeing and mitigating the impacts of carbon through innovation in this sector is important not only for the environment, but also for the future of Australian industry.

“As the national research and innovation hub working towards lowering carbon emissions in the built environment and enabling a globally competitive sector, the CRC for Low Carbon Living is pleased to see that cities and the built environment are a key focus of the Australian Government’s agenda.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Federal Government and our many industry, research and government partners to further underpin Australia’s competitiveness in this sector,” concluded Professor Prasad.
